The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner. The rejuvenated edition will kick start one of the most celebrated cricket festivals in a few days time. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, Royal Challengers Bangalore will kick start their IPL campaign on Sunday (March 27) against Punjab Kings at DY Patil Stadium. While RCB will look to end their title drought in the upcoming season, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has some suggestions for the franchise.

In a chat with ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer said that prolific batter and former skipper Virat Kohli should bat at number 3 while young prodigy Anuj Rawat must open the innings along with Faf du Plessis. The sports website quoted Jaffer as saying, "Kohli and Faf have similar batting style due to which they should not open the innings. Rawat can steady the innings well, while Faf can change the gear if needed. But, Virat, who looks to force himself during the powerplay, should come at number 3 as he plays his natural game at that position." Although Kohli has been quite successful while opening at the top-of-the-order, Jaffer said he appears to be more comfortable at number 3.

Jaffer said that Kohli could pace the game well if he bats at No.3 as he is a batter who likes to spend time in the crease. He opined that Kohli tries to force himself when he opens the batting. The former Indian cricketer added that No.3 is the best position for Kohli to bat.

Adding further, Jaffer said that Maxwell should come at number 4 as it will provide the perfect balance to the side. If Rawat and Du Plessis open for RCB, it will be a decent left and right-hand combination for the team, posing a formidable challenge to the opponents. Anuj Rawat, a left-hander, opened in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Delhi and bats well in the powerplay. Jaffer felt that Rawat has good experience and may grab the opportunity if given a chance, which can work wonders for the side."
