Kolkata Knight Riders defeated defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the season’s opening clash by 6-wickets. At the same time, RCB was stunned by Punjab Kings and was handed a shocking defeat in a high scoring match. 

While KKR put in a collective effort in their first clash with veteran Ajinkya Rahane playing a blistering 44-run knock, Nitish Rana (21 off 17) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (20 off 19) made valuable contributions. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis (88 off 57), Virat Kohli (41 off 29) and Dinesh Karthik (32 off 14) helped RCB post a mammoth total in front of Punjab, which was eventually not enough. 

Both sides are considered top contenders for the title and are studded with quality players who can turn the game single-handedly.
