Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals go head to head in the second match of the 2022 Indian Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Both franchises had a disappointing 2021 IPL campaign. The Capitals were the number one team before the start of the playoffs with 10 wins and four losses but missed to make it to the final. 

They lost to reigning champions Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier and then lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the second Eliminator. Whereas for the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, they missed out on making the top four. They had an identical record to the fourth-placed Kolkata but had a lower net-run rate.
