BCCI seems to have closed on the idea of adding two new teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 15th edition. The schedule for the overall process hasn't been officially announced yet, however, the increase in number of teams at the mega event will undoubtedly invite the mega auction.

In a recent development it is being learned that the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022 is likely to take place by the end of ongoing year. According to a recent media report, the BCCI has finalised the blueprint for the two new franchises, the mega auction, player retention, and increase in purse. It is worth noting that the number of teams in IPL is being increased from eight to ten.

Mega auction to invite some changes

Ahead of the IPL 2022, a mega auction will take place. The board is planning on holding the mega auction by December 2021, according to a report carried by Times of India. Ahead of the auction, the board is set to increase the salary purse from 85 crore to 90 crore. Every franchise is bound to spend 75% of the allotted purse. The purse amount will be increased from 90 crore to 95 crore and eventually 100 crore over the course of next three years, the report stated.

Bidding for two new franchises to take place in mid-October

The bid for adding two new franchises is likely to open in mid-October following the final of IPL 2021. Meanwhile, a revised player retention policy is also on the cards. Each franchise will now be allowed to retain four players on the condition that they either retain one overseas and three Indians or two overseas and two Indian players, as per the report.
