Cricket South Africa (CSA) is all set to welcome a brand-new T20 league that will feature top cricketing stars from across the globe. The new tournament is touted to have six new teams, the biddings for which was completed on 13 July, as per reports. Also, the ownership of all six franchises of CSA’s new T20 league has been won by the team owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per a report, six IPL franchise owners including Mumbai Indians’ Mukesh Ambani and Chennai Super Kings’ N Srinivasan placed bids for six teams and are also believed to have placed the highest bids. Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals, the Marans of SunRisers Hyderabad, Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants, and Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals are the four other bidders who have successfully placed a big for one of the six franchises.

A Cricbuzz report has claimed that the IPL team investors have been informed about their successful bids and have been asked for their choices of cities. The report further claims that “Mumbai Indians are set to have their team in Cape Town. Chennai Super Kings, one of the most popular IPL franchises, are likely to be given the franchise based in Johannesburg while Jindal, the co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, will have his team based in Centurion in Pretoria. It will be called the Pretoria Capitals."

Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants is believed to be interested in the Durban franchise. Meanwhile, SunRisers Hyderabad could have its team in Port Elizabeth while the Royals are expected to have their base in Paarl.

Notably, the brand new T20 league announced by Cricket South Africa is tentatively scheduled for January-February, 2023 and is expected to clash with another upcoming league in the UAE.

This is also expected to create chaos in the availability of players. However, the report claims that “There has been a signing match between the organizers of the two leagues and it is learned that many English players, including limited-overs skipper Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone, are believed to be inclined to play in the CSA league”.
