Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been one of the finds of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his IPL debut in 2016 but shot to fame after scoring 277 runs in 11 innings for Gujarat Lions in the following edition.

The performances in the 2017 edition made him a hot property in the IPL 2018 auction, where the likes of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers were involved in a heavy bidding war to include him in their armoury. But it was Mumbai Indians who had to shell out 6.20 Crores to avail the services of Kishan.

Kishan recalled memories of his family’s reaction after getting bought by Mumbai Indians for such a high price on the show, 'Breakfast with Champions' hosted by Gaurav Kapoor on YouTube.

"I was chilled out. It was my auction, I should be stressed about it. I had gone to play football with my friends. When the auction ended I got a call from Monu Bhai. He is telling me what all happened at the auction. I was like its good I have been sold at good money, I should go home and meet everyone," Kishan said.

The wicketkeeper spoke about the reaction of his father after getting notifications from his relatives and his name popping in every news report on mobiles. Kishan’s father had to go for a Blood pressure check-up after he grabbed huge attention in the mega auction 2016.

"I went home and saw that mom is on the call, cheeks red and on a call. I saw that dad wasn't even there. I asked where is dad? She said, 'He has gone to the hospital to check his BP'. I am thinking 'what has happened to my family?' (Laughs)," added Kishan.

He was impressive and went on to score 275 runs in 14 innings on his debut stint for Mumbai Indians. While he played a key role in the title victory for the MI team in 2020 by smashing 516 runs in 14 innings, he followed it up with 241 runs in 10 innings in the subsequent year.

In the 2022 auction, Ishan Kishan turned out to be the most expensive buy in the IPL 2022 mega auction and was bought again by Mumbai Indians for an amount of 15.25 Crores, due to his terrific track record for the franchise. In 2 matches of the ongoing season, he has justified his bid price by scoring 135 runs in 2 innings already.
