In the recently-concluded edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Himachal Pradesh created history as they defeated the mighty Tamil Nadu in the grand finale to win their maiden domestic title. From captain Rishi Dhawan to Shubham Arora, all the players put up a sensational show throughout the course of the tournament.

However, there was one player who provided his side with solid starts consistently at top of the order – Prashant Chopra. The right-handed batsman has been knocking on the doors of selectors in the last few years with his exceptional performances in the domestic circuit. But this time around, the batsman from Himachal Pradesh had an absolute dream run in the tournament.

In 8 matches, Prashant amassed 456 runs at an outstanding average of 57. His strike rate of 73.31 reflects that he did not just score runs but did it in some style. He was one of the key reasons behind his side’s incredible success and as expected, he looked quite emotional while reflecting on the campaign.

I don’t have many words to express my feelings: Prashant Chopra

In a video message shared with SportsTiger, Prashant said, “Hello everyone, thank you so much for the wishes. It’s an amazing feeling to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the very first time. It was a dream for me. I dreamt of it from the time I started playing professional Ranji Trophy cricket for HP. To win any format, be it white-ball be it red-ball. I don’t have many words to express my feelings. It’s an emotional feeling.”

He added, “It took me 12 years to hold this beautiful trophy in my hand. I made my debut in 2010 and it’s 2022 (almost) so 12 long years of constant efforts by each and every member of the team. All the support staff, all the members who have been involved in it, especially Anurag sir who has given us amazing facilities. So ya, thank you so much again and I am just enjoying this moment and I just feel like I’m on top of the world. Thank you.”

While the experienced batsman certainly showed his skills and abilities in Vijay Hazare Trophy, his incredible performances could also help Prashant Chopra get an IPL contract in the upcoming mega auctions with many franchises looking for a solid domestic top-order batsman.
