Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo has opened up about his relationship with fellow teammate Lando Norris. The Mclaren duo were touted to be an incredibly fun tandem as both these individuals have a happy-go-lucky attitude. But in the recent season of the docu-series Drive to Survive, produced by Netflix, Norris and Riccardo are portrayed to have a hostile relationship.

While speaking to Channel four, Riccardo addressed these issues and was quoted saying, “I felt like a lot of people probably wanted us to be best friends from day one.”

“And it was something that we couldn’t really force and it did take a bit of time to really create a good relationship. But in saying that, there wasn’t tension or anything, it was just that we were trying to figure each other out. Currently, where I sit today, I think we have a very good relationship.”

Daniel Ricciardo’s former teammate and 2021 World F1 champion Max Verstappen had also talked about how DTS over dramatised the Lando and Ricciardo relationship. He said, “I watched two episodes, but I was not very impressed. It’s just not my thing, faking rivalries.”

“Lando and Daniel are two great people I know – they have really great characters and immediately in the second episode it looks like they are not very friendly to each other, and for me, that’s not correct and that’s why I’m also not a part of it.”

They faked a few rivalries which don’t really exist: Verstappen

Last year, Verstappen also denied participating in the docu-series for reasons of faking rivalries and over dramatisation. “They faked a few rivalries which don’t really exist,” the Red Bull driver opined. “So I decided to not be a part of it and did not give any more interviews after that because then there is nothing you can show. I am not really a dramatic show kind of person, I just want facts and real things to happen.”

“The problem is they will always position you in a way they want, so whatever you say, they will try to make you look reckless or trying to make you… whatever fits the story of the series,” he said at the time. So I never really liked that. I prefer to just have a one-on-one interview with the person who would like to know me.”
