“Jai Shree Raam”: Keshav Maharaj’s celebratory phrase after ODI series clean sweep over India goes viral

India’s tour of South Africa was a disappointing one for the Men in Blue. While the Indian team had the opportunity to register a historic Test series win in the rainbow nation, they were also favourites to win the ODI series. However, neither of the results went in their favour. While they won the first Test match of the tour, as it turned out, that was also their last win in this overseas assignment.

South Africa were clearly the better team and the fact that they managed to compete and beat a strong Indian unit even without someone like Anrich Nortje as well as Quinton de Kock in the last two Tests speaks a lot about the courage and the class they showed in this series. Obviously, the win meant a lot for the Proteas who had been going through a bad phase.

Post the series win, South African players took to social media to share celebratory posts and messages. However, one post that grabbed the limelight was that of spinner Keshav Maharaj.

“What a Series it’s been couldn’t be more proud of this team and how far we have come, time to recharge and prepare for the next one Jai Shree Raam,” he captioned a series of pictures on Instagram. However, it was the phrase that Jai Shree Raam that got the netizens talking.

Notably, the 31-year-old South African cricketer has an Indian origin but resides in the rainbow country. Apart from using this phrase in his post, the slow left-arm orthodox bowler also has “Jai Shree Raam, Jai Shree Hanuman” chants written on his Instagram bio. That made his post an instant hit among Indian fans some of whom were happy to see the fact that he had not forgotten his Indian roots.

Post the South Africa Tests, Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain in Test matches after having already been replaced by Rohit Sharma at the helm in white-ball cricket. The new Test captain is yet to be announced but it is Rohit who appears to be the frontrunner at this stage with him having already proved his leadership in white-ball cricket and also having experience of leading in the Ranji Trophy.
