India's ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has hit back at his critics after his superb performance in the first Test match against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. While Bumrah scalped four wickets in the first innings, he picked up a fifer in the second, returning with nine wickets in the Test match. However, rain forced the visitors to settle for a draw in a Test match where they looked favourites to win with a day's action to go.

Notably, Bumrah was subjected to a lot of criticism for his poor outing especially in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand where he struggled to find the right line and length or get any kind of swing. While he had preferred to remain silent back then, after silencing them with his on-field performance, Bumrah chose to put out a message for his critics. "Still don't need you," he captioned pictures of himself from the match.

Jasprit Bumrah is our number one bowler: KL Rahul

Meanwhile, batter KL Rahul has termed Bumrah as the number one bowler in the team. His answer came in response to a journalist who had asked his opinion on Bumrah making a comeback in style.

"Sir, I don’t know why you are saying that (Jasprit) Bumrah has made a comeback. Every time, in every game, in every condition he has proved himself and he is our number one bowler. We are happy that he is doing what he he (has) been doing since he started playing Test cricket," Rahul said.

"Wherever he has played, he has been a match-winner for us. We are happy that he has done once again, what he does best," he added.

The Karnataka cricketer, who returned to open the batting and scored a fine half-century in the first innings, was left impressed with India's discipline with the ball throughout the match.

"The way we bowled in the first innings and the discipline that we showed after losing the toss and bowling first (was a takeaway). It felt like the team which won the toss had an advantage and we bowled with a lot of discipline. How Mohammed Shami and Bumrah started and how Shardul and Siraj continued, how all of them worked together and bowled in the right channels," Rahul said.
