In a fresh development about India’s squad for the 2022 Asia Cup, it has been learned that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to be ruled out of the continental tournament due to an injury. Reports have emerged that Bumrah has suffered a back injury and hence is doubtful to be available for the tournament. The selectors don't want to risk Bumrah's fitness as they want the quick bowler fit for the T20 World Cup.

Notably, Bumrah was rested from the West Indies tour and has also not been named in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour. The right-arm quick last played in the ODI away series against England. After resting for a month, Bumrah was expected to make a comeback to the side.

However, it is understood that the back issue will keep him out for some time and he will need to do rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before being deemed fit for the white-ball home series against Australia and South Africa in September-October.

"Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before the T20 World Cup. We can't risk him in the Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

It's worth mentioning that Bumrah had suffered a similar injury sometimes back and was kept out of action for a significant amount of time. With the T20 World Cup around the corner, Bumrah's injury is a setback for the Indian team as he would need some matches to get into the groove after a long lay-off which will be more than two months.

Now with the pacer injured, the BCCI Selection Committee will look for a solid replacement. Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, and Deepak Chahar will be in contention to replace Bumrah.
