India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was forced to leave the field with an ankle injury during Day 3 of the ongoing Test match between South Africa and India on Tuesday. Bumrah could not complete the over and it was Mohammed Siraj who had to finish the 11th over of the first South African batting innings. While the 28-year-old did receive some treatment from physio Nitin Patel is out, it wasn’t enough for him to resume action.

Later the BCCI also posted an official update on its verified social media handle, confirming the case of an ankle sprain. Shreyas Iyer has substituted Bumrah on the field.

“Update: Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a right ankle sprain while bowling in the first innings. The medical team is monitoring him at the moment. Shreyas Iyer is on the field as his substitute. #SAvIND,” BCCI’s tweet at 05:02 PM (IST) read.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue would be pretty disappointed with the way they batted on Day 3 of the match. While they had set themselves up nicely for a total in excess of 400 with KL Rahul’s hundred and Mayank Agarwal’s 60 taking them to 272/3 at the end of Day 1 when the play resumed on Day 3 after Day 2 was completely washed out, a fierce spell from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi saw India suffer a collapse and get bowled out for 327.

Ngidi, who had taken all the three wickets on the first day, finished with 6/71 with Rabada ending with figures of 3/72. Centurion KL Rahul could add only 1 run to his Day 1 score while his unbeaten partner Akinkya Rahane departed for 48. Debutant Marco Jansen picked up the last Indian wicket to fall to mark his first wicket in Test cricket, dismissing Bumrah for 14.

However, since then India has made a bit of a comeback, having sent for South Africa batters back in the pavilion for 32 runs. They would miss their pace spearhead in Bumrah who had already taken a wicket and was looking threatening but Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj have been up to the task so far.
