England batter Joe Root and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell donated the match-worn gloves they sported in the first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord’s to Marylebone Cricket Club Museum. The club shared a picture of the gloves donated by the two cricketers and thanked them.

“Thank you to @root66 & @dazmitchell47 for donating their match-worn gloves to the MCC Museum at @HomeOfCricket,” wrote MCC on Twitter.

Notably, both the batters scored a century in the second innings of their respective teams in the first Test which changed the course of the game. While Mitchell scored a fighting 108 in NZ’s second innings, Joe Root scored a match-winning 115* in England’s second innings.

After both teams got bundled out under 150 in their first innings, New Zealand were on the verge of another collapse when Daryl Mitchell walked into bat. The visitors had lost four early wickets within 60 runs. But Mitchell formed a 195-run stand with Tom Blundell (96 off 198) to put NZ in a respectable position.

On the other hand, Joe Root slammed a century in a tricky chase of 277 for England and helped the Three Lions bring their first win in the last ten Tests. England were also tattering at 69/4 but Joe Root and Ben Stokes (54 off 110) formed a 90-run partnership for the fifth wicket to keep England in the chase. Root then built the innings with Ben Foakes (32 off 92) and eventually took England over the line.

The former England captain was also awarded Man of the Match for his heroics in the second innings. Apart from scoring his 26th Test century, Root also completed 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He became only the second Englishman (after Alastair Cook) to cross the five-figures mark.
