Joe Root has been in and out of the news ever since England displayed a disastrous performance in the recently concluded Ashes that saw Australia lift the cup and defeat the England side by 4-0. It might be noted that Joe Root's captaincy and his continuation to lead the England side after the horrible defeat was also under the scanner.

Having said that, the Indian Premier League Mega Auction will be underway by the second week of February and Root had earlier expressed his desire to feature in the cash-rich tournament. However, making it very clear that his Test career would remain unaffected by this decision.

In a recent development, it might be noted that Joe Root had finally made his decision and has opted to prioritise the England Test Team over featuring in the upcoming edition of the IPL season. During the Ashes post-match presentation, Joe Root mentioned, “There’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we want to be." This confirmed that he has turned down the chance to enter the auction.

Speaking of his Test captaincy after the Ashes defeat, Joe Root was of the opinion that, "I can tell you one thing for sure – as long as I have the opportunity to captain this team, I will throw everything into it and give everything – for everyone supporting us, for the guys around me, for the players – to try and provide an environment that allows us to be successful"

Notably, the Indian Premier League will begin in April 2022. The BCCI is still to ponder over all the preparations for the tournament.
