England Test batter Joe Root announced his decision to step down from captaincy with immediate effect after England’s poor performance in WTC’21-23 cycle. England has been under tremendous pressure for their below par performance in this WTC cycle as they were trailing the Test series 1-2 vs India, lost the Ashes 0-4 to Australia and also lost the Test series to West Indies by 0-1 recently.

However, just before WTC’21 Final, England lost Test series on their home soil itself to New Zealand as well.

Joe Root the batsman carried his Test team as other batsman failed to step up for England in 2021 and his record as captain is something that can be cherished by the fans over the years to come. Joe Root the batsman was fantabulous among fab-4 players in Test cricket since 2020. Joe Root has been the second highest run-scorer for England in Tests only behind Alastair Cook and definitely he can proud of the records that he has achieved over the years for English side in the longest format.

2017 – Joe Root was appointed as Test captain of England in 2017.

– He won Test series vs SA & WI in 2017 and against India in 2018 on their home soil.

– In 2018, he became the first English captain to win a Test Series on Sri Lanka soil and their team repeated the same feat in 2021 also. Joe Root’s last series win as Captain came against Sri Lanka in 2021.

– In 2019, England managed to draw the Ashes Test series against Australia, later won a Test series on South African soil in 2020. Also post COVID period in July & Aug 2020, England won a Test series against WI and Pakistan on their home soil.
