Judges prevail over lawyers in friendly T20 fixture inaugurated by CJI NV Ramana

The fixture was commenced by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, who did not take part in the actual match but inaugurated the game by facing three balls.

It was a refreshing morning for the Supreme Court judges and lawyers, who faced off in an annual friendly T-20 cricket match, being played at Modern School Barakhamba Road, New Delhi.

Both the teams, CJI (Chief Justice of India)-XI and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) gave it all on the cricket field. The fixture was commenced by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, who did not take part in the actual match but inaugurated the game by facing three balls. On the first two balls, the ball could not quite connect, but the third one saw piercing through the field.

The CJI-XI captain Justice L Nageswara Rao chose to bat first after winning the toss. During the innings, the players were replaced to give each player an equal opportunity to showcase their talent. They posted a total of 160 in 20 overs, on the back of Justice Raja’s 40 off 20 balls. In response, Supreme Court Bar Association, who were led by senior advocate Vikas Singh was dismissed for only 88 runs, with 7.2 overs to spare.

The captain of CJI-XI scalped two wickets in three overs contained the SCBA side. In the power-play overs. The player of the match was Justice Anand Venkatesh, who contributed 34 runs and picked up 3 wickets to script a 72-run win for the CJI-XI team. The best fielder turned out to be Col. R Balasubramanian, who was praised by the other players and commentators as well.

The lawyers took a jibe at the players of their own team as well. While the SCBA treasurer, advocate, and the match’s commentator Meenesh Dubey said, Looking at senior advocate Ajit Sinha’s bowling it’s definite that he has a case tomorrow before Justice Ajay Rastogi, and making it easy for him to score runs.

Senior advocates like Aman Lekhi, Vikas Pahwa, Tushar Mehta, and Aman Sinha were the part of SCBA team. While Justice Vineet Saran, Justice CT Ravikumar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, and Justice MM Sundresh, Justice Raja were few of the members of the CJI-XI team.
