The new IPL franchise from Lucknow has finally revealed their name on Monday, after a long wait. The RP Sanjiv Goenka Group owned team ran a contest on social media where they got in loads of suggestions from fans all over the country.
With so many names like Lucknow Nawabs, Lucknow Rangers, Lucknow Panthers etc. doing the rounds, the franchise has finally gone ahead with the name - Lucknow Super Giants.
"Hi, thank you so much for the overwhelming response to #NaamBanaoNaamKamao contest. Lakhs and Lakhs of people responded. Based on that, we are very happy to choose the name for Lucknow IPL Team. And the name that we have chosen based on your recommendations is Lucknow Super Giants. Thank you so much for your response and your love, continue to give us your blessings in future as well, "franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka said in a video shared by team on Monday.
It seems like that fans and franchise have taken inspiration from the previous IPL team (Pune) owned by the same RPSG group. The name of that team was Rising Pune Supergiant and probably to continue the legacy and identity, the ownership might have gone ahead with a similar name which they have been associated to, in past.
