The Indian Premier League (IPL) fever is on even though the next season is still a good few months away. This is because the franchises have announced the list of player retentions based on which their team will revolve around in the next few months. Last season finalists Kolkata Knight Riders also announced the list of players retained by the team and there were no surprises with them backing their core and retaining Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer.

Moreover, the team management has also backed mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who played a crucial role in their journey till the IPL 2021 finals. In a huge mistake though, the KKR CEO Venky Mysore while announcing the list of players retained by the side tagged the wrong Venkatesh Iyer on Twitter.

"We start our new journey with these four match winners! #SunilNarine @Russell12A @chakaravarthy29 & @venkyiyer58. Wish we could hv retained the entire #TeamKKR @KKRiders #IPLretention," Mysore tweeted.

Check out his tweet here:

However, while he tagged @venkyiyer58, the correct Twitter handle of the KKR cricketer is @ivenkyiyer2512 which also happens to be a verified account. Yet the mistake from Mysore has meant that the incorrect user has gained some followers. @venkyiyer58 had around 48 followers at the time Mysore put out this tweet, the same profile now shows over 2500 followers.

As far as other franchises are concerned, Sunrisers Hyderabad could not reach an agreement with Rashid Khan for retention which means that the leg-spinner will be back in the auction pool. Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, Jason Holder, and Jason Roy were also not part of the players retained by SRH. While the Orange Army has backed Kane Williamson to be their captain, they have also shown their trust with uncapped players Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have kept Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. It will be an interesting auction with several star players set to go under the hammer and two new teams also there among the takers. The mega auction is likely to happen in December or early 2022.
