Punjab Kings have been handed a major blow ahead of their crucial encounter against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Team skipper KL Rahul, who is currently the Orange Cap holder this season with 331 runs to his name, has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis after he complained of a severe abdomen pain on Saturday night. The franchise gave the update about Rahul's health in an official statement saying, "It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures he has been transferred to the hospital for the same."

Here is their tweet:

Who will lead Punjab in absence of KL Rahul?

KL Rahul's absence for such a crucial match on Sunday would be a huge loss for Punjab Kings. It is expected that Mayank Agarwal will take on the leadership duties for the match against Delhi Capitals. Notably, the 30-year-old missed the previous contest against RCB due to an injury and is likely to be back for this game as their skipper. There is also a likely possibility of Chris Gayle leading the side, something he did when KL left the field in the previous contest.

The fans have been pouring in wishes for the PBKS skipper to get well soon and be back on the field as early as possible. After tonight's clash, fifth-placed Punjab Kings are scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 6.
