Sri Lanka's own T20 League, Lanka Premier League is all set to return for its second edition later this year. In the latest development, it is being learned that the league will be held in December this year. All the matches will be played at a single venue due to restrictions laid due to COVID-19 outburst.

As per the latest reports, the Lanka Premier League 2021 will kick-off in the first week of December 2021 with the first fixture set to be played on December 3. The league will be played for a period of three weeks and the final is slated to be played on December 23.  All the matches in the tournament will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

The news was revealed by Danushka Aravinda, who took to Twitter to share it. “The second edition of Lanka Premier League is scheduled to kick off from December 3 to 23 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota,” he tweeted.

Jaffna Stallions were crowned as the winners of the inaugural edition of LPL

Thisara Perera-led Jaffna Stallions won the first edition of the Lanka Premier League where they beat Galle Gladiators in the final fixture. Stallions won the match comfortably by 53 runs to become the maiden title holders. Shoaib Malik showed his all-rounder skills to win the match for his side. Malik scored a handy 46 runs with the bat and then claimed two wickets in the second innings. He was also awarded with the player of the match.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga emerged as the highest wicket-taker as he scalped 17 wickets from 10 matches. While Danushka Gunathilaka was the highest run-scorer in the first edition. He plundered 476 runs from 10 innings with an average around 60 and a strike rate of 144.68.
