It hasn't been a very pleasant start to a Sunday morning for billions of people in India, who identify themselves as fans of Lata Mangeshkar. The legendary singer whose voice was often cited as the most technically brilliant among playback artists had contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to ICU in a private hospital in Mumbai last month. She breathed her last on Sunday morning aged 92.

Following the demise of the singer who was famously known as the "Nightingale of India" cricketers and sportspersons have been sharing their condolences on social media. The "Aaj Phir Jeene ki Tamnna hai" singer has served "not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus backed songs in 20 Indian languages" as per a media report and was active even till the last decade.

"The Nightingale of India ,a voice which has resonated with, brought joy and happiness to millions around the world leaves. Heartfelt Condolences to her family and fans. Om Shanti," Former India opener Sehwag tweeted.

"Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92. May her soul rest in peace," wrestler Geeta Phogat wrote.

"Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata ji. Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family & the loved ones," star India batter Virat Kohli posted.

"Pained to receive news of Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar didi's demise. Her voice and melodies will remain immortal. Condolences to her family, friends and millions of fans all over the world. ॐ शांति," former India cricketer VVS Laxman who was with the U-19 team who lifted the World Cup on Saturday evening as their coach wrote on Twitter.

"Extremely saddened by the demise of the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar ji. A big loss for India. Her magical voice shall remain immortal. Om Shanti," Mithali Raj wrote.
