When Messi lifted the trophy after winning the Copa America Final, he ended his 28-year drought of winning an international trophy. He played with utmost devotion throughout the tournament and was named the best player as well. A testament to his devotion towards the game came after a revelation from the team's coach Lionel Scaloni. He revealed that the Argentine captain played with an injury in the Final and the semi-final. Lionel showered praise on Messi for his dedication towards the game.

Lionel Scaloni said that if everyone knew that he played against Brazil with an injury, they would start loving him even more. “If you knew that he played in the Copa America you would love him even more,” said Scaloni to reporters. “You can never do without a player like him, even when he is not fully fit like in this game and the previous one,” revealed Scaloni. The team coach, however, did not clearly mention what the injury was but he was all in awe about his captain's devotion. Messi was seen playing with a bleeding ankle in the semi-final.

Messi ends 28-year drought

Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America Final by 1-0 to win their 15th Copa America title thanks to the only goal from Angel Di Maria. The win came after 28 years. Lionel Messi also ended his drought to win an international trophy and finally added the missing card in his long career. Messi has won the FIFA Player of the Year Award for a record six times and has also won every club and individual honor with Barcelona. However, he did not have any international title as he had lost all of his previous four finals for Argentina. But after defeating the hosts Brazil 1-0, he put a full stop to all the questions about him not winning an international trophy.
