Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chinese Taipei's Nien-Chin Chen in the quarter-final to secure India another medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. The 23-year old became just the second Indian woman boxer from India after the legendary MC Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal. Lovlina is assured of at least a bronze medal but she will be aiming much higher.

How did Lovlina take up boxing?

Following the footsteps of her twin sisters Licha and Lima, Lovlina first took up Muay Thai, a form of kickboxing at the age of 13. After meeting her first coach Padum Boro, she switched to boxing when she found the opportunity to do so.

The biggest break of Lovlina's career came when she was selected to participate in the 2018 Commonwealth Games welterweight boxing category.

Lovlina Borgohain's family does not watch her matches

After her stunning win in the quarter-finals, Borgohain’s family revealed that they did not watch her match and they don’t want any of Lovlina's televised matches at all.

“We did not watch Lovlina’s game today," said Tiken Borgohain, Lovlina’s father. “Me and my family did not watch the game, we do not watch her games.
