Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana has put his hands up in a time of dire needs for Sri Lanka as the mystery spinner chipped in with some help during the major economic crisis. Theekshana has donated tissue vault, cell, and freezing bags to a heart hospital in the country. The Sri Lanka cricketer was also aided by his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in allocating the medical supplies.

Theekshana donated the medical supplies to Human Heart Valve and Tissue Bank at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo. As his country battles the worst economic crisis in seven decades, the mystery spinner decided to allocate part of his earnings from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, wherein he featured for Chennai Super Kings, in a bid to help his country tackle the economic crisis.

CSK helped Theekshana with the transportation of medicines from India to Sri Lanka by allocating excess luggage. After helping the country in the need of the hour, Theekshana said he feels “humbled”. "I am blessed and humbled to contribute towards this desperate hour of their need," Theekshana told News9.

Notably, Sri Lanka’s economy has hit a record low and the prices of basic items are skyrocketing. The foreign exchange rates have also hit a record low causing a hindrance in paying the essential import duties. On Sunday, a high-level US delegation landed in the Island Nation to hold talks with the country's top ministers to find effective ways to help Sri Lanka solve the unprecedented economic crisis.

Meanwhile, the country is finding some happiness in its team’s performance on the cricket ground. As Sri Lanka are hosting Australia for an all-format tour, the fans are turning out in huge numbers to show support for their team.

The Dasun Shanaka-led team has also ensured that the fans don’t go home disappointed as they registered a series win over the Aussies in the five-match ODI series. Now, with the white-ball series done and dusted, the hosts will play two Tests starting from July 2.
