Deepak Chahar forced the Chennai franchise to break banks in IPL auctions to secure his services for the 15th edition of the tournament. While the player has made some vital contributions with the ball in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against West Indies, his potential with the bat is also less in doubt. Notably, Chahar was one of the expensive players in the IPL 2022 Auction. Eventually, his former franchise CSK secured him by making a whopping bid of Rs. 14 crores.
Although Chahar sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 3rd T20 International match, he clinched two crucial wickets at the start of the 2nd innings, providing early breakthroughs to the team. In one of his recent interviews with SportsYaari, the all-rounder recalled how CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni suggested that he must focus on batting on the day the former skipper retired from international cricket.
“While we were sitting in the evening and having a chat, Mahi Bhai suggested me to focus more on my batting”, recalled Chahar.
As per CSK all-rounder, Dhoni told him that he has done an excellent job with the bowling but hasn’t justified his batting yet.
Adding further, Chahar recalled his early days when he batted more than bowling overs in a day. “I had this motivation to emerge as a perfect all-rounder for any team I play. In 2017-18, I was at home due to which I used to do batting practice more than bowling,” said Chahar. He also informed that Rising Pune Supergiants brought him as batting all-rounder, and he has been trying to make a mark as a same.
While Chahar has been excellent with the ball in the powerplay and has also improved his death-over performance, Chahar’s hard-hitting down the order has only added feathers to his cap. Since joining CSK in 2018, Chahar has played 58-matches for the franchise in IPL and took 58-wickets.
