After all sorts of speculations, Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed that midfield star Paul Pogba will part ways with the club after his contract expires in June. The same was made clear on Wednesday, June 01, 2022. The development means that Pogba will leave the Red Devils for a free transfer for the second time after leaving for Juventus in 2012.

“The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon the expiry of his contract,” an official statement from the club read.

“The Frenchman has enjoyed a long association with United, having joined the club’s Academy from Le Havre at the age of just 16,” it added.

“Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United. We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey,” it further said.

After leaving for Serie A in 2012, the World Cup winner with France had returned to the Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record transfer fee of £89.3 million. However, overall his second spell at United will be remembered as a season of failed promises and a case of Pogba letting the team down as much as United letting him down by not having players around him that could make for a threatening side.

Moreover, Pogba also faced injury issues and had a fallout with the fans even being booed by his own supporters in his last two matches for the Red Devils against Norwich City and Liverpool.

For now, there is no clarity on which one would be Pogba’s next destination although reports suggest he could eye a return to Juventus. A few reports have also linked his name to Manchester City but it has been said that he has rejected the offer from the reigning Premier League champions.
