Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, as per multiple reports. The 27-year-old France international is entering the final 12 months of his contract with Juventus and has emerged as a leading player for the Red Devils as they seek to better manager Erik ten Hag’s squad.

United must now take a decision on whether they try to close their ongoing attempts to secure Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong before making a decision on Rabiot. They would also need to agree on personal terms with the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who is thought to be a favourite among a number of candidates.

Rabiot rose to prominence at PSG, where he made 227 appearances for the club before moving to Juventus in 2019. He has been a first-team regular in his three seasons at the Turin-based club and has played 129 matches under three different coaches. Rabiot made his France debut in 2016 and has made 29 appearances for his country.

Manchester United have so far added Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, and Christan Eriksen in the 2022 summer transfer window. Talking about the Red Devils, United suffered a 2-1 opening day loss against Brighton & Hove Albion FC. German midfielder Pascal Gross scored both the goals for Brighton as Manchester United repeated the mistakes from the disappointing 2021-22 season.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag talked about the team’s disappointment with this result.  "I was aware of it before, this game doesn't change that. It is a hell of a job. We have to work really hard, analyse then move forward," he said. "Of course definitely a setback and real disappointment. I knew from the start it would not be easy. We gave two easy balls away and it was not good in the organisation."

Whereas Brighton boss Graham Potter was full of praise for his team. “It was a fantastic effort from the players and we deserved the win over the course of the game,” he said. “It’s a historic win for us so it’s something to be happy about. We had an idea about how to attack and then when we could, we tried to press and put them under pressure. We were brave in what we did.”
