In an interesting turn of events, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire was left red-faced after he was found liking an Instagram post that stated his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo was not pleased with the club deducting his salary. The Instagram story published by one of the media houses notified Ronaldo is unhappy at Old Trafford because he is having to take a 25% pay cut due to the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Notably, Ronaldo was earning a rumoured £480,000 per week last season, but that number has seen a sharp decline as the club has now decided to pay £360,000 following Red Devils missing out on Champions League qualification, last term. While several reports have claimed that the United skipper did it intentional following his difference with the talismanic striker, Harry Maguire reportedly told BBC sport that it was unintentional and he clicked the button in error.

The incident has once again started the debate on an unhappy dressing room of Manchester United and has hinted at reports confirming fighting and internal unrest among the United playing squad, including clashes between Harry Maguire and Ronaldo. While Maguire’s account has disliked the post, reports have claimed that both the United players hardly see each other eye-to-eye at times.

According to reports and experts, Harry Maguire‘s status as captain has been undermined by the fact that most of the players in the camp view Ronaldo more as a leader and match-winner. Earlier reports claimed that Ronaldo might replace Maguire as captain of Manchester United, but fresh reports claim the Portuguese striker has informed the United hierarchy of his desire to leave if a club boasting Champions League football comes in for him.

Reportedly, Ronaldo has also skipped Manchester United pre-season training for the third day in a row. Ronaldo returned to United last summer and scored 24 goals in all competitions, with 18 of those being in the Premier League.
