India is celebrating its 76th Independence Day on August 15, 2022. As the nation is observing this momentous occasion of having completed 75 years of independence and looks back proudly on the various achievements along its way, the Indian sporting fraternity has also extended its wishes on the national festival.

Over the years, Indian sporting stars have made the nation proud in multiple sporting tournaments and events. While the country won its first-ever gold medal in Independent India history when the hockey team won the first prize in the 1948 Olympics, the Indian Polo team won the World Cup in 1957. In 1962, the Indian football team clinched gold in the Jakarta Asian Games and in 1983 India managed to win their first-ever Cricket World Cup beating favourites West Indies in the final at Lord's, London.

There have been so many such iconic moments in India's history and as the Indian athletes continue to strive to make the nation proud in the years going ahead, here is a glimpse of how they are celebrating this Independence day and the wishes they have shared.

"75 glorious years. Proud to be an Indian. Happy Independence Day to all. Jai Hind. ??," star India batter Virat Kohli tweeted.

 

"75 years of independence. स्वतंत्रता दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं ??," India's men's cricket captain Rohit Sharma posted along with a picture of himself with the Indian tricolour.

Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallist Bajrang Punia also extended his wishes.

"सभी देशवासियों को #स्वतंत्रतादिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं। जय हिंद जय भारत ! #hargharTiranga," he tweeted before adding another tweet where he shared pictures from his celebrations. #harghrtiranga ??? #happyindependenceday?? ??," the second tweet was captioned.

"It’s an unparalleled feeling to represent my beloved ?? and make her stand tall amongst other nations. May the future bring more glory to our great nation. Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day??," reigning World Champion Nikhat Zareen tweeted.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu simply captioned a picture with the flag: "Happy Independence Day ??"
