India is celebrating its 76th Independence Day on August 15, 2022. As the nation is observing this momentous occasion of having completed 75 years of independence and looks back proudly on the various achievements along its way, the Indian sporting fraternity has also extended its wishes on the national festival.

Over the years, Indian sporting stars have made the nation proud in multiple sporting tournaments and events. While the country won its first-ever gold medal in Independent India history when the hockey team won the first prize in the 1948 Olympics, the Indian Polo team won the World Cup in 1957. In 1962, the Indian football team clinched gold in the Jakarta Asian Games and in 1983 India managed to win their first-ever Cricket World Cup beating favourites West Indies in the final at Lord's, London.

There have been so many such iconic moments in India's history and as the Indian athletes continue to strive to make the nation proud in the years going ahead, here is a glimpse of how they are celebrating this Independence day and the wishes they have shared.
