India's three-day practice game prior to the Test series in England has been full of dramatic events. However, only a few could match the on-pitch tussle between Washington Sundar and Mohammad Siraj. Although both have proved in the limited opportunities they have been presented with, they are worth in the Indian national team, the players are competing against each other in this ongoing fixture at the Chester-le-Street, Durham.

In an update released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it was confirmed that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had in fact requested the Indian team management to let two players from the Indian camp play for them since a lot of their players were unavailable either due to injuries or after being deemed close contacts of a Coronavirus infected individual. As a result, Avesh Khan, who had travelled with the team as a net bowler, and Sundar are playing for the County Select XI side.

And on Day 2 of the match on Wednesday, when County Select XI were playing, Sundar came into bat at number 4 ahead of captain Will Rhodes. He was up against pacer Siraj and the duo was spotted sharing a few words after one particular delivery. The battle didn't last long though as Siraj got the better of Sundar and sent him back for a 7-ball 1. Earlier, Avesh had got the new ball for the County team but later had to leave the field after injuring his left thumb.

KL Rahul impresses with a hundred

Furthermore, the designated India wicketkeeper in this game, KL Rahul, impressed one and all with a superb unbeaten hundred. Rahul hasn't been part of the Test team for a long time but his 150-ball 101, including 11 boundaries and a six, would do a world of good to his confidence and send a strong message to the selection committee. Other than Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja also scored 75 as the team posted a first-innings total of 311.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are both battling injury concerns and hence skipped the lone warm-up game. In their absence, Rohit Sharma is captaining the team but failed to make it count with the bat, scoring just 9 runs from 33 balls.
