After Rajasthan Royals suffered a major blow with Ben Stokes getting ruled out for the rest of the tournament, former England cricketer Monty Panesar believes the franchise should sign a specialist batsman instead of an all-rounder because that is where the team needs a replacement.

RR should sign Ben Mcdermott: Panesar

Talking about the replacement for Stokes, the 38-year-old named a very exciting Aussie cricketer in the form of Ben Mcdermott. He said, "Ben could be an extremely good addition to the RR side as he is a really exciting cricketer. He is a great striker of the ball and is someone who can hit long sixes. As no one has seen too much of him, he could be a great replacement."

Can Alex Hales finally get an IPL contract?

Reflecting on the rumours about the possible signing of Alex Hales (who remained unsold in the IPL 2021 auction), Monty Panesar believed that he could also be a good replacement. He said, "Alex is a good opening batsman and it could be a great opportunity for him to make a statement as he eyes a return to the England's T20 setup." The 38-year-old added that the franchise might definitely think about him considering his impressive form in Big Bash League.

Talking about the form of these two players in BBL, McDermott scored 402 runs in 12 innings at a scintillating strike rate of 139.50. On the other hand, Hales scored 543 runs in 15 innings at a whopping strike rate of 161.61. It will be interesting to see if Rajasthan opt for either of these two players or come up with a completely different name altogether.
