Chennai Super Kings gave a special tribute to their charismatic captain MS Dhoni during IPL auction, held on February 18th. The Yellow Army’s team management ensured that the fans can feel Thala’s presence during the 2021 auction.

A special tribute to Thala

All the members of the CSK team, including CEO Kasi Viswanathan and bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji, were seen wearing masks which had No. 7 (MS Dhoni’s jersey number) printed on them during the auction on Thursday.

In addition to that, they were also spotted wearing ‘Definitely Not’ T-shirts. Notably, when MS Dhoni was asked last year if it was his last game for CSK in IPL, Thala had replied ‘Definitely Not’. Dhoni’s comments had gone viral on social media as the former India captain confirmed that he will be back in IPL 2021.

The CSK management’s tribute to their captain, who has led them to three IPL titles, was certainly one of the moments of the 2021 auction.

CSK’s performance in the 2021 Auction

As per reports, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming remained connected with the CSK team management on call during the auction. The franchise had a really exciting day in the  IPL 2021 auction.

They bought two promising spin all-rounders - Krishnappa Gowtham and Moeen Ali for INR 9.25 crore and INR 7 crore respectively. CSK also added a few Indian uncapped players to their squad. Harishankar Reddy, Bhagath Verma and Hari Nishanth were bought for INR 20 lakhs each.

The Yellow Army also produced the highlight signing of the day when they bought Cheteshwar Pujara for INR 50 lakhs. Everyone applauded as India's Test specialist got an IPL contract after seven years.

CSK have certainly strengthened their squad ahead of the 14th edition. The Yellow Army would be hoping to win their fourth IPL title this season.
