South Africa have made a massive comeback after having lost the first test. They pulled off an excellent run chase in Johannesburg to level the series before masterminding another chase to hand Virat Kohli and co. a series defeat in a long time. Hosts South Africa completed the comeback against favorites, India, as they won the third and final Test in Cape Town by wickets to secure the series 2-1.

Once again it was the batting that let the visitors down. Their middle order has been extremely poor but this loss could well prove to have a silver lining. The team might finally make the changes it needs and pushes out the underperforming seniors in Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. By the time Rishabh Pant got to his ton and the innings that followed, Proteas were much in control of the game and a win was quite easy thereon. Keegan Petersen’s crucial knock anchored South Africa’s comeback in the tournament.

Post the match, it was the Indian skipper Virat Kohli who himself admitted that the batting collapses were the primary reason behind their Test series loss against the Proteas.

“Of course, it (batting) has been the reason, no doubt about us. Their bowlers were just better in terms of their execution and applying pressure. Batting is certainly something to be looked at. No excuses there. It’s really disappointing for sure,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation.

The result also implied that India’s wait for a Test series win in the rainbow country has been extended. Most fans are disappointed especially with the performances of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane and have demanded they be dropped from the Test team.
