The Lucknow franchise is certainly wasting no time to build a solid team for next season of IPL. Before signing the players, the UP based team is focusing on getting some experience on board in the backroom staff. After it was announced that Andy Flower will be the head coach of the franchise, Gautam Gambhir has also joined Lucknow as their mentor for IPL 2022.
Reflecting on his appointment, Gautam Gambhir expressed his happiness on social media. In an Instagram post, he stated, "It's a privilege to be in the contest once again. Thanks Dr. Goenka for including me in the #LucknowIPLTeam as its mentor. The fire to win still burns inside me, the desire to leave a winner's legacy still kicks me. I won't be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of UP!"
Fans react as Gambhir joins Lucknow
As expected, Twitter went berserk on hearing the news of Gambhir's appointment. Some of the netizens were indeed very excited to see the duo of Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir together in the new franchise. One user even went on to say that the former KKR skipper is a very good addition to the side because of his fearless and ruthless attitude.
Meanwhile, one of the users had a very funny suggestion for the name of franchise. While referring to Gambhir's political associations, he opined that Lucknow Lotuses would be perfect considering they also have Mr. Flower at the helm.
Apart from these fun reactions, most of the tweets focused on only one thing - the new rivalry in IPL! It is no secret to anyone that Dr. Goenka and Gambhir are not the best of friends with MS Dhoni in past and with the duo coming together in the same franchise, the netizens hailed 'Lucknow vs CSK' as the biggest ever rivalries in history of IPL, even greater than the El Clasico of MI vs CSK.
