Sports is all about emotions and age is just a number associated with it. In a recent event which was hosted by the Yuvrani Sports Committee in Dehradun, a 106-year-old athlete took the limelight as the sprinter won three golds during the 18 th National Open Athletics Championships.
Rambai, the 106-year-old sprinter, who hails from Haryana clinched not just one but three golds at the Open event. The aged athlete, who is said to take up athletics just two years ago at the age of 104, had set a record for a 100m sprint in the above 85 category last year. She added more feathers to her cap as she won three golds, one in each 100m sprint, 200m sprint and one in shot put at the 18 th edition of the National Open Athletics Championships.
Rambai broke record holder Man Kaur’s record last year in June when she completed 100m sprint in just 45.50 seconds at the Open Masters Athletics Championships in Vadodara.
Talking about Punjab’s Man Kaur, she made the headlines by becoming the world’s fastest centenarian to win gold at American Masters Game in Vancouver. She achieved this feat, clocking one minute and 21 seconds in the 100m sprint. She later bettered her record at the World Masters Game, clocking one minute and 14 seconds later.
