After a disappointing IPL 2023 season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad took a radical approach and made significant changes in their team and coaching staff. Hyderabad brought New Zealand legend and Australian assistant coach, Daniel Vettori as the head coach. SRH also replaced their IPL 2023 captain, Aiden Markram with Pat Cummins, who led Australia to the WTC and ODI World Cup titles in 2023.
Cummins was also made the second-most expensive player to be bought in IPL auction history as SRH shelled out a massive sum of INR 20.50 crore. The all-rounder from Punjab, Abhishek Sharma showed some great promise in IPL 2023 as he opened the innings for Hyderabad. Building on these performances, Sharma carried this form in the Indian domestic T20 league - Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by scoring 485 runs at a 48.5 average and a strike rate of 192.46. These heroics helped Punjab win the 2023 SMAT as well.
