The Indian cricket team’s jerseys have often been very popular among the fans due to their colour. The blue colour represents the sky and sea, while also denoting bravery and dedication. Since the 1990s, Indian players have donned various shades of blue, including oxford, azure, contemporary and Prussian.

Recently, the official video of the Indian cricketers featuring Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya revealed that India will feature in the T20 World Cup 2022 with a new jersey. In this regard, enough excitement has been build-up on whether the latest jersey will follow the pattern of illustrious jerseys worn by the team in the earlier editions of the World Cup.

1. T20 World Cup 2007


One of the most popular jerseys of all time due to India’s inspiring performances under the leadership of MS Dhoni to win the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. India wore the sky-blue jersey with Tri-colour on the right side, which is often called a classic jersey, which was half-sleeve as well.

Furthermore, the event was scheduled after the ODI World Cup, wherein the Indian team crashed in the opening round. The watershed moment in Indian cricket courtesy of Yuvraj Singh hitting six sixes in a single over is still fresh among the cricket-watching audiences. In addition, the emotions were certainly sky high among the fans, as they beat their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Finals.

2. T20 World Cup 2016


In the 2016 edition of the World Cup, the Indian players had Chinese collars on their shirts, with an orange motif across the chest and the ‘I’ in India written in the same colour. Moreover, the showpiece event hosted by India made it more special as well.

In the league stages, India tasted success in three out of four appearances. However, the star-studded Caribbean team prevailed over the Men in Blue in the semi-finals, ending India’s hopes to win their second ICC event on home soil.

3. T20 World Cup 2021


In this edition, the Indian team sported a dark navy-blue jersey with blue, green, white and red stripes, while getting inspired by the 1992 World Cup shirt. Furthermore, this jersey was also called ‘Billion Cheers Jersey’, which was an ode to the fans for their unwavering support. Certainly, it was in huge demand in the Indian markets.

If talked about the on-field performance, India which came better prepared with an understanding of UAE pitches failed to seal the place in the semi-finals after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super-12 stage.

4. T20 World Cup 2014


The 2014 edition of the T20 World Cup witnessed India wearing classic Indian blue, but with a little darker shade. In particular, the brand associations were not present in the front part of the jersey, which is something underheard in the present times.

This year, India registered wins in all four league matches, and then won against South Africa in the semi-finals. However, they lost the final against Sri Lanka after failing to defend 130 and emerged as a runner-up.

5. T20 World Cup 2012


Ahead of this tournament, the Indian cricketers unveiled their jerseys in a grand event and were reportedly very happy with the design. The shirt which was revealed witnessed the Indian flag being embarked just around the shoulder. However, BCCI wanted good luck to prevail and asked the players to don the 2011 World Cup final jersey.

In the 2012 edition, India managed to win two out of their three league matches but failed to reach the semi-finals due to the lower net-run rate.
