On September 28, all teams set to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023 announced their final 15-member squad for the quadrennial spectacle, meeting the deadline specified by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The first match of the flagship tournament is going to be played on October 5, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, when the defending champions England will go head-to-head against the runners-up New Zealand.
But, while a lot of cricketers are going to get the opportunity of a lifetime to take part in the ICC Cricket World Cup this October and November, some others won’t be quite as fortunate. 1. Anrich Nortje
The South African speedster, Anrich Nortje, was picked in the preliminary squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, but his back problems gave the team management and selectors no choice except ruling him out of their final squad for the flagship tournament. Notably, the 29-year-old had missed out on taking part in the ODI World Cup 2019 in England, due to a fractured thumb injury in the build-up.
