The much-anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction is all set to take place on Sunday, December 15 in Bengaluru. The WPL Player Auction will begin at 3 pm IST, after the conclusion of Day 2’s play in the ongoing third Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). While the auction will provide all five franchises to pick the best possible talent to complete their respective squads, RCB Women Head Coach Luke Williams recently revealed the strategy with which they will enter the auction table.

With a total of 120 players being shortlisted for the 19 slots available across five franchises, Luke Williams revealed that they will eye to rope in players, in order to improve after they lifted their maiden WPL title in March 2024. With the red and gold franchise eyeing to fill in their four slots with a remaining price purse of INR 3.25 Crore, they released seven players from their squad of 2024.

A great opportunity for us to keep evolving: Luke Williams ahead of WPL 2025 auction

However, they traded Danni Wyatt from UP Warriorz ahead of the WPL 2025 mini-auction, they released the likes of Heather Knight, Nadine de Klerk, including five others. With four slots remaining, RCB Women will go all out to get the best Indian talent with no place for overseas players. Seeing this, Head Coach Luke Williams added that they will eye to add players who will make an impact in the tournament.

“We have looked to retain a solid core of the squad that was successful in last year’s tournament to maintain that consistency within the team on and off the field. However, the mini-auction does provide a great opportunity for us to keep evolving and add additional players to our line-up that we think could impact the WPL and improve our squad,” Williams said, as quoted saying in RCB’s media release.
