Over the 13 years of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been several successful campaigns for franchises but a few disappointing ones too. Almost all on-field decisions are taken by the skipper which goes on to impact the result of the match, making it critical for teams to pick the right man for the job.

With the tournament well into its second decade now and the upcoming edition being the 14th season of the blockbuster league, cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra picked five-time IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma as his number one pick.  He chose MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir as the other two most successful leaders of teams in the tournament. Chopra added that Adam Gilchrist and David Warner also came close but couldn't make the cut.

Rohit stays ahead of the game: Chopra

Analysing Rohit's captaincy, Chopra said that he tends to stay ahead of the game. While the match is currently in the 8th over, Rohit will already have his plans as to how it will impact the 10th over. According to the former KKR star, the Hitman is brilliant with his bowling changes and because he remains ahead, he is able to remain calm and composed under pressure.

MS Dhoni emerged as the headmaster of a relatively new format in 2008

Moving on to MS Dhoni, Chopra said that had Captain Cool found a way to put his team back on track after things went from bad to worse in IPL 2020, he would have rated Dhoni higher than Rohit. This is because Dhoni emerged as the headmaster of a new format when the tournament began in 2008 and has been remarkably consistent with his team. Chopra picked Gambhir as the number three most successful skipper of IPL.
