IPL 2023 has been the season of Shubman Gill and the majority of cricket experts and fans would name him as the best player of the IPL. It would be deservedly so considering he became only the second Indian batsman in IPL history to breach the 800 run mark after Virat Kohli and led his team to the final. However, South African legend and now an expert AB de Villiers opines that the Rajasthan Royals opener was the best player of the tournament this season.

As the IPL 2023 final was delayed and eventually washed out, experts Anil Kumble, Scott Styris, and AB de Villiers discussed the season's best player. During this segment, ABD expressed that Jaiswal was the best player for him by a long margin.  He explained that Shubman is older which makes him more mature and Jaiswal has all the credentials to become great.

The former RCB player said on Jio Cinema, "Yashasvi Jaiswal for me (the best player) and by a long margin for sure. He is a young player and has got all the shots in the book. He has a calm and composed temperament at the wicket and I love what he does, dominating the bowlers and always looking like he is in control."

Yashasvi Jaiswal led the scoring charts for a long time and finished with 625 runs in 14 matches and dominated bowlers for fun. He took over the responsibility from an out-of-form Jos Buttler who won the Orange Cap last year but lost his touch this season. Rajasthan failed to qualify for the playoffs as they won only three of their last nine matches and finished fifth with 14 points because of which Jaiswal’s amazing season has been foreshadowed by Gill. Jaiswal is now on his way to England as he is selected as a back-up opener for the WTC final against Australia at the Oval which starts on June 7.
