On Tuesday, June 4, Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan registered a comprehensive win over Uganda in match five of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. With this win, Afghanistan surpassed co-hosts West Indies in their Group C standings, taking the top spot with a comparatively better Net Run Rate and two points in their kitty.

After winning the toss, Uganda captain, Brian Masaba invited the Afghans to put the score first on the board. A brilliant start by the opening pair of wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz (45-ball 76) and Ibrahim Zadran (46-ball 70), the Rashid Khan-led side posted a 150-plus score on the board. After an unbeaten 14-run knock from Mohammad Nabi, the side eventually posted 183/5 in their stipulated overs.

Here, for the Cricket Cranes, Cosmas Kyewuta and skipper Brian Masaba, both scalped two wickets each, while Alpesh Ramjani finished with a wicket to his name. 

Furthermore, in the run chase, Afghanistan left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi got the early wickets of the Uganda openers in Ronak Patel and wicketkeeper-batter Simon Ssesazi. Riazat Ali Shah and Robinson Obuya did try to come good in the chase but good not stay long in the middle against the Afghan bowling attack. Eventually, the Masaba-led side were bundled out for the score of 58 in 16 overs.

While the 23-year-old starred in the match finishing with the figures of 5/9 in his four-over spell, Naveen-ul-Haq and captain Rashid Khan too took two wickets each while Mujeeb Ur Rahman was also among the wickets, helping the side register a comprehensive 125-run win against the Cricket Cranes.
