The President of AIFF, Kalyan Chaubey, spoke to the executive committee members last month about India eyeing to host a few FIFA World Cup 2034 matches. The internal circular of the national footballing body revealed that they are mulling a plan to bring the coveted tournament to India, which is set to be held in Saudi Arabia.
Following the deadline on October 31, FIFA, the global footballing body, confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host the World Cup in 2034 after they were the only country to bid for it. This decision came to being after the Emergency Congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on October 18, including India, supported the bid of Saudis to host the FIFA World Cup 2034.

Notably, the World Cup in the year 2034 will have 48 teams who will play 104 matches, which is where the idea of India hosting around ten matches came to being for AIFF, as per the report from PTI. The draft minutes of the AIFF Executive Committee meeting from November 9 read, “The president informed the house that India should think or plan to work towards being a co-host for the World Cup in 2034.”
Moreover, FIFA has decided to restrict the hosting eligibility of the World Cup in 2034 to Asia or Oceania continents. This happened after they agreed to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 on three continents - Africa, Europe, and South America.
