Spanish women's football team and its fans are quite happy with the positive news that their 27-year-old superstar Aitana Bonmati got discharged from the hospital. She was diagnosed with meningitis before getting treatment, resulting in her missing Spain's last warm-up match against Japan before the Women's European Championship. She will now join Spain's UEFA Women's Euro 2025 squad for upcoming matches.

In her absence, Spain secured a 3-1 victory in that friendly held in Switzerland on Friday, June 27. Her condition had initially raised concerns about whether she would be fit to play in Spain’s opening Group B clash in the Euros against Portugal this coming Thursday. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner and the midfielder was hospitalised on Friday after falling ill.

But just two days later, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), on its statement, stated that the midfielder will soon rejoin the team. "After several days in hospital with viral meningitis, Aitana Bonmati has been discharged from hospital and will join the Spanish National Team's training camp in the coming days," they wrote.

Aitana Bonmati - The vital player with dribbling skills and passing

Aitana Bonmati has reached remarkable milestones with La Roja, amassing 78 caps and netting 30 goals. She stands seventh on Spain’s all-time appearances list, behind her Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas, who tops the chart with 132 caps. A two-time Ballon d'Or Féminin winner, the Barcelona midfielder’s accolades underscore her extraordinary skill and impact on the game. Her return is a major boost for Spain ahead of the Euros.

Bonmati’s dribbling, precise passing, and scoring have proven crucial in propelling Barcelona to five straight Champions League finals, securing three titles along the way. Without her, the responsibility would have increased for Alexia Putellas - herself a two-time Ballon d'Or recipient - and fellow Barcelona midfielder Patricia Guijarro to guide Spain in Switzerland.
