Indian top-order batter KL Rahul was seen at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain Madhya Pradesh recently with his wife Athiya Shetty. The Karnataka-born player hasn’t been playing well over the last few months, triggering fans and cricketing experts to heavily criticise him. This dip in form has continued in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy where he has only amassed 20 runs in the first two games.
In a video that has been making the rounds of the internet, Rahul and Athiya were seen offering their prayers to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas at the Mahakaleshwar temple. The couple also got married on January 23. The ceremony took place in Athiya Shetty’s father, Sunil Shetty’s home in Lonavala near Mumbai.

Going back to KL Rahul’s recent performances, in 47 Tests, Rahul averaged only 33.44. His batting has hit a new low since scoring his last hundred against South Africa in December 2021, as he has scores of 23, 50, 8, 12, 10, 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17, 1. Since 2018, Rahul averages only 26.36 in 47 innings with three centuries and the numbers drop to as low as 17.40 an average in 10 innings since 2022, with one fifty-plus knock. This drought of runs also led to the stripping of his vice-captain title after the second Test against Australia.
But despite this poor form, Indian captain Rohit Sharma stated that the team will continue to back Rahul. "Of late, there has been a lot of talk on his batting. But for us as team management, we always look at the potential of any individual, not just KL. I have been asked in the past about lot of players. If a guy has potential, guys will get that extended run," Rohit said.
