2 00m national record holder Amlan Borgohain added yet another record to his achievements as the Northeast Frontier Railway sprinter broke the 100m national record at the 87th All India inter-Railway Championships in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

The 24-year-old Assamese clocked  10.25 seconds to complete the 100m race and bagged the gold medal. With his race time, Amlan surpassed the previous 100m national record of 10.26 seconds, which was set by Amiya Kumar Mallick in 2016.

The 100m entry standard for next year's World Athletics Championships in Budapest is 10.00 seconds, which makes Amlan's record-breaking attempt inadequate to qualify for the event.

The president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Adille Sumariwalla opened up on the chances of Amlan's attempt to be ratified as a national record. He said, "There is a process. If the process is followed it will be ratified. It is an absolutely super performance by young Amlan."

AFI technical committee chairman Stanley Jones said, " I’m waiting for all the reports, photo finish image, wind speed report, dope test report...everything. Let me get those reports and then put it up for ratification. "

Meanwhile, the women’s 100m event was won by  Himashree Roy in 11.42 seconds while R. Rajesh (46.73s) and Kiran Pahal (53.91s) bagged the men’s and women’s 400m titles respectively.
