Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin have won a gold medal at the Archery World Cup 2023 by defeating Chen Yi Hsuan and Chem Chieh Lun of Chinese Taipei 159-154 in the Compound Mixed Team Final. They had reached the finals by taking down Malaysia’s Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki 157-155 in the semifinal. Jyothi Surekha is also running for a medal in the women’s compound individual category after advancing into the semifinals. 

In the Antaya World Cup 2023, Jyothi and Ojas shot a perfect 40 in three of the four ends. The duo missed breaking the world record by a minimal margin of one point but ended up winning gold for India at the stage 1. From their 16 arrows, the Indian pair shot 15 10s, which includes 12 perfect Xs with one nine to win 159-154. Upon winning gold, Ojas said, “We weren’t thinking of the world record. I was shooting in form, I missed on that shot and posted a 9.” 

Vennam, who holds world no. 11 position, is currently focused on her upcoming Compound individual's semi-final. She will take on Great Britain’s Elsa Gibson in the individual contest. She said, “In the afternoon, we focus on the individual matches. We’ve started well in the team event and hope we have good individual performances and rest of the year.”

On Sunday, the recurve men’s team will take on China to shoot for the gold medal, whereas, in the individual competition, Dhiraj Bommadevara will take on Dan Olaru in men’s recurve semi-final contest.
