Argentina star and Lionel Messi’s teammate Angel Di Maria's family received a death threat from an unidentified drug gang based in his hometown. The proceedings came following the 36-year-old’s statement on his possible return to his Argentina boy-hood club Rosario Central. He currently plays as a winger for the Portuguese club Benfica.
The Argentine police are investigating the unidentified source from which Di Maria received a family death threat. According to a local news website Mdzol.com, around as early as 2:30 A.M. on Monday, a note was thrown from a grey car at the private neighborhood of Miraflores where the World Cup usually resides.
The piece of paper read, “Tell your son Angel not to return to Rosario again because otherwise we will screw him up by killing a family member.” It further stated, “Not even Pullaro is going to save you. We don’t throw away pieces of paper. We throw lead and dead people.”
Angel Di Maria, who played 36 games for Rosario in his initial stages left his home city in 2007 to seek chances in other parts of the World. Following that, he signed up with Portugal club Benfica before playing for Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG, and Juventus.
Lionel Messi's family too suffered same incident a year ago
Another soccer superstar and Angel Di Maria’s teammate Lionel Messi also suffered the same incident a year ago when an unidentified group of gunmen shot at a supermarket which is owned by a relative of Lionel Messi in Rosario itself. They also left a message which conveyed, “Messi, we are waiting for you.”
