Arjan Veurink will relinquish his role as England Lionesses assistant coach following the upcoming UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, to take charge as Netherland’s head coach. He allied with Sarina Weigman in 2017, when they guided the Dutch team to the trophy win in the continental tournament. In 2021, both moved to England and under their leadership, the Lionesses won the European championship in 2022. Veurink will replace Andries Jonker as the Dutch team’s football coach following the marquee European tournament. On April 15, the Dutch Soccer Federation came up with the announcement that Veurink has stitched a four-year contract which will kick off after his stint with England women’s football team concludes following the Euro Cup 2025 to be held in Switzerland.
"This is not only a great challenge and a wonderful new adventure, it also feels like a logical next step in my career. I have never made a secret of the fact that I once wanted to be the person in charge of the Dutch national team. With more than eight years of experience at the highest level as Sarina Wiegman's right-hand man, first with the Netherlands and now in England, I am ready to stand on my own two feet. The fact that this opportunity is now occurring in the Netherlands makes it extra special. I will now do everything I can to end the coming months in England in style,” said Veurik in his statement.
Dutch Football Association thrilled with Veurink’s return to the Dutch team
The Dutch Football Association has displayed elation for Veurink’s upcoming comeback to the national team. Former Netherlands footballer Nigel de Jong, who is also the director of top-level football at the Dutch Football Association, has shown faith in the 38-year-old’s experience in women’s football.
“He knows what is required at the absolute top, but also knows how important it is to maintain the connection with the basics. We are therefore pleased that he wants to take on the challenge. We would also like to thank the English Football Association for their cooperation,” remarked de Jong.
