Indian Grandmaster (GM) Arjun Erigaisi reached the quarter-finals of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 event in Paris on Tuesday, April 8, after finishing in fourth place with 6.5 points out of possible 11 in the round-robin stage. Although his fellow Indian Grandmasters namely Dommaraju Gukesh, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, and Vidit Gujrathi finished in bottom four of the 12-player tournament, which means that they will be competing in the 9-12 place playoffs.

Notably, Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi finished in first place in the standings after round-robin stage with 8.5 points in the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 event in Paris ahead of Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen on the countback after they had the same number of points to their name. French GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took the third spot with seven points, while Nodirbek Abdusattorov finished in fifth place behind Arjun Erigaisi with both of them scoring 6.5 points.

American GM Hikaru Nakamura collected six points, while Vincent Keymer and Fabiano Caruna got 5.5 and 4.5 points respectively, to find themselves in top eight of the standings after the conclusion of the round-robin stage at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 event in Paris. After high-quality action on the chessboard across the first two days of the tournament, the knockout rounds have the scope of bringing more thrilling games of chess.
